I’m giving you the choice of 1960’s or 1970’s wind Nordstrand NJ4 single coil pickups. Paired with our very own Tone Merchants Concentric Control Plate. These are all drop in replacements for any Fender, Squire or similar Jazz Bass that keeps the traditional Fender layout. That’s a wide range of brands you can do this awesome mod with.

Nordstrand NJ4 Jazz Bass Pickup – 60’s or 70’s Wind
Nordstrand NJ4 jazz bass pickup, choose from the NJ4 60’s or 70’s wind for the tone that you are looking to achieve. The 60’s single coil has a very open sound and fast response and is widely heralded for its authentic 1960’s tone. If you like the more aggressive edge to your sound, it is available in the 70’s wind.
Nordstrand NJ4 Specs
- Sold as a complete set, bridge and neck pickups.
- Single coil 4 string jazz-type bass pickup.
- Alnico V magnets.
- Available with an alternative 70s wind, featuring enamel wire and a lower wind count than the traditional 60s wind. In choosing this particular specification, the player can expect a more aggressive, enhanced top end with a tight bottom.
- Drop-in J replacement pickup, check sizing tab for full measurement details.
- 19mm string spacing standard.
Tone Merchants Concentric Control Plate
Concentric Jazz Bass Control Plate was made by Fender for a very short period of time, 1960-1962 but has had a lasting effect with an almost mythical feel about it. In fact these Concentric Jazz Basses from 60-62 are now highly sought after by collectors and tone junkies.
Concentric controls for bass give you a wide range of tone options. Being able to contour the volume and tone of each pickup individually, offers an opportunity to sculpt your own tone to your discretion. Enabling you to really dial in the bass tone needed for the track or for defining your own sound.
A Tone Merchants pre-wired concentric control plate will add tonal dynamics that your current Vol, Vol, Tone controls does not offer..
Pre Tinned Leads For Easy Soldering
All Tone Merchants Wiring harnesses & control plates are designed to make it easy to install. You’ll find the “Hot Wires” that are to be connected to your pickups already soldered to the pots. So all you need to do is connect the wires of your pickups to these & then heat-shrink wrap the exposed wire (provided). This removes a lot of the effort when new to soldering & the fears around over-heating the pots.

All orders are sent from our shop in Auckland, NZ on a track and trace courier. Typically within New Zealand your Jazz Bass Upgrade Pack will arrive over night once dispatched. For delivery into Australia typically our standard service is 5-7 days once dispatched.
Customers in the USA can expected 10-14 days for delivery once your order has been dispatched. Just like our orders into Australia, there will be no import duties or taxes to pay on your order.
